  • Application Developer--Windows

    This position is located at our new HQ in SoMa.

    Build the cutting-edge human-robot interface for the next generation of commercial drones.

    Airware is designing a beautiful and functional user interface  to simplify the complex task of flying unmanned aircraft while maintaining industry-leading safety standards. The Application Developer will primarily design/develop/test features for our customer-facing, cross-platform Ground Control Station (GCS) software. He or she will inevitably touch many other user-facing applications such as the dashboard utility for streamlined aircraft configuration. The Application Developer will own UI products throughout the entire lifecycle, participate in flight testing in the field, and use internal and external feedback to continually improve the Airware user experience.

    Sample projects

    • Create an elegant, user-friendly interface to allow the user to safely fly and land multiple types of aircraft
    • Determine how to detect and represent obstacles and hazards--from terrain elevation to nearby aircraft
    • Join the flight testing team to operate the GCS in the field, evaluating usability and efficiency for typical missions and tasks--collect internal and external user feedback and propose interface design improvements

  • Automation Engineer - Flight Systems

    This position is located at our new HQ in SoMa.

    Create frameworks and tools to help put our autonomous aerial systems through the wringer.

    Airware’s next-generation commercial drone systems are built on a full stack, state-of-the-art, homegrown hardware and software architecture, including microcontrollers running real-time embedded firmware, mission-critical flight systems, ground control software, and cloud data management. The Automation Engineer will help build and maintain a platform that ensures Airware’s test and deployment operations are reliable, intuitive, and automated. Although this is primarily a software development position, the ideal candidate will have experience working on embedded systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Build and maintain a test automation framework used internally to write and run functional and integration tests on target hardware
    • Write tools to:
      • Manage and analyze data
      • Tie build, test and deploy systems together
      • Interact with lab hardware and measurement systems
      • Manage and control simulation software

    Enable the developer community and inspire app development on the first platform for commercial drones.

    Software has migrated from PCs to the web to mobile devices. Up next are apps for autonomous aerial systems -- commercial drones! Airware has created the first commercial drone developer platform, and we’re ready to start evangelizing to the world how apps for aerial robots can be used to solve real-world business and environmental problems.

    The mission of the Airware Developer Evangelist is to promote adoption of the Airware platform for commercial drone app development.  You’ll wear two hats: one inside the office as our API product manager, and the other outside the office as you travel the world winning over the hearts and minds of developers and building the commercial drone developer community.  Internally, you’ll ensure developer-facing products (APIs, SDKs, docs, support, etc) are truly meeting developer needs.  Externally, you’ll foster and promote community engagement, partner relationships, and a vibrant solutions ecosystem.  

    Our development environments span: web, desktop, phone/tablet, and yes, flying robots!  Ideally, you’ve got experience with web APIs, Linux, Windows, mobile SDKs, and C/C++.

    Sample Projects

    • Guide the development and launch of our SDK, web API, and developer portal by defining features and roadmap. Expand the vision for our developer products.

    • Be the voice of the developer within Airware. Collect customer feedback to assist Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Sales teams in identifying customer needs to refine our products. Be the SDK/API Product Owner in an Agile environment.

    • Attend and present at events - meetups, hackathons, conferences. Help plan our developer conference and developer-focused marketing campaigns.

    At the heart of every Airware product is bulletproof software and firmware with extraordinary capabilities. Autonomous aerial systems demand a foundation of embedded software that is reliable, robust, high-performance, real-time, fault-tolerant, expertly-designed and tested to perfection. As an Embedded Software Engineer working on our Flight Core Platform you'll play a key role in designing, implementing, and shipping software and firmware at the heart of our sophisticated autonomous aerial technology.

    Ideally you’ll have expertise in one or more areas and apply your skills right away, with the ability to learn new skills and ultimately contribute to a variety of projects we have in engineering, including:

    Sample Projects

    • Write low-level hardware drivers to read sensors (like gyros and accelerometers) that interface with high-level algorithms (like inertial estimation filters).

    • Optimize the execution of safety-critical processes running within a real-time embedded operating system, juggling Flash, RAM, processing and timing constraints.

    • Develop a system data logger that interfaces with the real-time messaging framework and records key flight telemetry and system fault data.

    • Architect and implement a real-time messaging framework for efficiently passing data between local and remote software processes.

    Ensure that Airware’s office works like a well-oiled machine as we scale and facilitate a top-notch experience for visitors and guests.

    Our Office Manager will be responsible for ensuring that our office is efficiently managed, well-stocked, and flawlessly organized, from purchasing, to organizing, to building office protocols. This person is ultimately responsible for ensuring everyone who visits our office has a smooth and seamless visit. Our ideal candidate will ensure that everything at the office continues to run efficiently as we scale, from greeting and directing visitors to ordering lunch and tracking purchases. It’s an ideal position for someone eager to get into a rapidly growing technology start-up, support the team in a variety of ways, and learn a ton along the way.

    The Office Manager is also the face of Airware to everyone who comes into the office. In this capacity, he or she will welcome visitors and guests in the office, and receive and direct incoming telephone calls.     • Manage office and kitchen facilities, purchasing and vendors--determine when we should outsource and when we should bring services in-house as we scale

    Lead the development of Airware's SaaS platform for Commercial Drones.  Champion a new market and change the way drone technology is delivered to customers and partners.

    Airware's Product group is looking for a proven and knowledgeable product manager to join our team. Our Product Manager – Cloud Platform will participate in defining the strategy of Airware's cloud products and solutions through identifying market needs, defining product plans, and building strong relationships with go-to-market teams. Cloud platforms are a strategic and fast-growing area of our business, and the role of Product Manager is critical to our success.

    Our Product Manager will develop and maintain relationships across a variety of channels externally and across Airware's diverse client and partner base in order to gain and synthesize market insight to build detailed market requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop a deep understanding of market problems and drivers for cloud products and services through market research, productive relationships with customers, and internal sources of market knowledge and expertise
    • Prioritize specific market problems against market and business needs; own requirements definition in support of those market problems

    Create test frameworks to put our autonomous aerial systems through the wringer.

    Airware’s next-generation commercial drone platform relies on software at every level, from real-time embedded firmware to mission critical algorithms and GUI front-ends. The Python Developer will do their best to write Python scripts to break our code and ensure that Airware’s software quality is top notch by testing for robustness and usability. This Engineer will get exposure to the whole stack and be an advocate for testing and software quality best practices on our Engineering Team.

    Sample projects

    • Develop software test tools and embedded automation frameworks that help ensure Airware’s systems have top-notch reliability

  • Software Engineer, Application Framework

    Build the software powering application development on Airware’s Aerial Information Platform. 

    Airware is developing the world's first extensible aerial information platform for commercial drones, creating a rare opportunity for an experienced, product-focused engineering professional. You’ll design a framework for application deployment in a distributed, loosely-coupled system. You'll build a robust foundation for developer-facing APIs, SDKs and the applications using them, continuously improving upon the software framework and applications which enable our aerial robots to solve real-world business and environmental problems.

    Ideally you’ll have expertise in one or more areas and apply your skills right away, with the ability to learn and ultimately contribute to a variety of projects we have in engineering, including:

    Sample Projects

    • Design and build a robust application framework enabling third party app development and integration on our platform
    • Design and implement API’s and SDKs for our application framework
    • Develop sample applications with the team using your framework, API and SDK and related libraries and protocols
    • Work with early developers of commercial drone applications on how to best leverage our SDK and platform

    Necessary Skills and Experience

    Design innovative software that is at the heart of a commercial drone platform.

    Airware’s next-generation commercial drone platform is powered by software. Messaging middleware, SDKs/APIs, and the applications that utilize them are essential in making flying robots that are viable business tools. The C++ Software Engineer will play a leading role in architecting, implementing, and deploying the software that is at the heart of sophisticated autonomous aerial technology.

    Ideally you’ll have expertise in one or more areas and apply your skills right away, with the ability to learn new skills and ultimately contribute to a variety of projects we have in engineering, including:

    Sample Projects

    • Design and implement API’s and SDKs for our application framework
    • Architect and implement a real-time messaging framework for efficiently passing data between local and remote software processes
    • Architect and implement a state machine that coordinates the mode sequencing between our flight core (autopilot) and the other dependent components in our distributed system

  • Software Engineer in Test - UI

    Create test frameworks to put our autonomous aerial systems through the wringer.

    Airware’s Autonomous Information Platform relies on UI and web applications to give our customer a clear way to control unmanned aircraft, and store and analyze the data our flying robots collect. The Software Engineer in Test--UI will do his or her best to break our code and ensure that Airware’s software quality is top notch by testing for robustness and usability. This Engineer will primarily work with our Ground Control Station and Cloud Services, but will get exposure to the whole stack.

    Sample projects

    • Create and maintain automation tests and frameworks that will enable the best user experience on our command and control applications
    • Set up testing environments and run our code through its paces before it’s deployed to production
    • Work with product managers and developers to understand requirements and user stories--be the technical interface between development teams to ensure the end-user’s experience is flawless
    • Minimize manual testing by identifying high-impact test cases and automating them
    • Integrate tools for managing requirements, test suites and defects
    • Get down to the root causes of the hard to find bugs
